Staple Hill is still Labour, councillors reassure

Staple Hill’s councillors are reassuring residents that they are Labour members, after a publication from the Conservative council showed that their ward had turned blue.

The council’s free magazine for all residents, South Gloucestershire News, has recently published the details of those elected to the Council in May together with a map showing how each ward voted. Staple Hill’s councillors, Ian Boulton and Shirley Potts, were surprised to see that their ward is shown in Conservative blue despite it having the largest Labour majority in the whole district.

Shirley and Ian say:

“We double checked the results and they confirmed that we were both elected as Labour councillors with over 63% of the votes cast giving us majorities of over 1,300. We want to assure the thousands who voted for us that we did win, and that we remain Labour.

This error simply shows that you cannot trust everything that comes out of our Conservative council.”
