South Gloucestershire’s Labour councillors are set to meet Shadow Health Minister Jon Ashworth next week, when they plan to welcome him on a visit to Cossham Hospital. Mr Ashworth will meet councillors and other activists who have been calling for improved healthcare for local patients for many years.
Councillor Ian Scott, who leads for Labour on health issues and who chaired the council’s health scrutiny committee until 2015, says he intends to brief Mr Ashworth on a number of issues.
Councillor Scott says:
“I look forward to Mr Ashworth visiting Cossham Hospital next month where he will see some great work being done by its dedicated staff. Alas he will not see the Minor Injuries Unit that was promised as part of the Bristol Health Services Plan, because this was dropped by the Tory government immediately after the 2015 election.
I also welcome the chance to raise our concerns about the cuts-driven Sustainability and Transformation Plan and what it might mean for local health provision, in addition to the implications of the proposed merger of local Clinical Commissioning Groups for services delivered in our district.”
Councillor Scott and his colleagues are scheduled to meet Mr Ashworth at Cossham Hospital at 5pm on Tuesday 7th November.
