A Patchway councillor has presented South Gloucestershire Council with a petition from a group of local people requesting residents’ parking in their cul-de-sac.
Hempton Lane runs off the A38 Gloucester Road just south of the Aztec West business park, and it also houses Patchway Community College. Residents have long encountered problems with student and commuter parking all day in their small street, and they recently collected a petition asking the council to take action. 70% of the lane’s residents signed the petition, which was formally submitted to South Gloucestershire Council by Councillor Sam Scott at this week’s Council meeting.
Councillor Sam Scott, one of Patchway's 3 Labour councillors, explained:
“There have been issues with student and commuter parking since before I was elected, and recently the college has very helpfully created more spaces on its campus which will take some of the cars off the road. However, with Aztec West being so close, commuter parking remains an issue and I am happy to support the residents by presenting this petition to Council.”
There are a number of areas in South Gloucestershire where residents would welcome some kind of residents’ parking scheme, including parts of Filton and Kingswood. Labour councillors continue to press for appropriate parking schemes to be investigated and implemented.
